Patriotism in Action Team members: Dr. David Dyson, founder; Col. Bob Barefield (USA Ret) and Nancy Barefield, co-chairs, at Memorial Day ceremony at The American Village. The Citizenship Trust presented the “Above and Beyond Award” to Patriotism in Action for leading efforts for history and character traits education plus the campaign gaining U.S. Senate recognition for Alabama and Raymond Weeks as “driving force” for America’s Veterans Day.

On Monday, May 29, 2017, Life Leaders participated in Memorial Day ceremonies at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama, directed by Col. Bob Barefield (USA Ret), trustee and chair of Patriotism in Action for Life Leaders.

The American Village honored our Veterans Day Founding History Education started by our Patriotism in Action team with the Above and Beyond Award. You may download the full schedule (PDF) and Life Leaders handout (PDF) that teaches history and character traits related to the founding of Veterans Day in Alabama. Also honored were Raymond Weeks for starting Veterans Day; Col. Stretch Dunn, Patriotism in Action, for helping to tell the education story; and Mark Ryan, for serving as president of National Veterans Day after Bill Voigt, who succeeded Raymond Weeks.
